Overview
On the Data Discovery page, you can apply multiple filter conditions to search results to further narrow down the asset scope. Common filter dimensions include asset type categories (left-side tabs), owners, time ranges, and additional dimensions such as Catalog and governance tags available for certain asset types. This document describes how to use these filter dimensions and the differences in supported filter options across asset types.
Prerequisites
You have activated the DataBuddy service and completed workspace initialization.
Use Limits
Limit | Description |
Filtering Scope | Applies only to the currently selected asset type Tab. |
How Filters Take Effect | Multiple filter conditions are in an AND relationship and must be met simultaneously. |
Reset | Provides a Reset button to clear all filter conditions under the current Tab with one click. |
Operation Steps
Step 1: Selecting the Asset Type Tab
Go to the Data Discovery page (from the top search box or by clicking Discovery in the left-side navigation), and select the target asset type Tab on the left side of the page. Each Tab corresponds to one asset type, and the result list automatically narrows down to that type.
The asset type Tabs supported on the Data Discovery page are as follows:
Group. | Tab |
Overview | All |
Data Directory | Tables, views, functions, volumes, and models |
Data Engineering | Files, Notebook, SQL, folders, Git folders, and workflows |
Data access | Offline ingestion and real-time ingestion |
Data Science | Model experiments and model services |
Data analysis | Dashboard |
Data governance | Metrics and semantic models |
Data Application | Agent |
Tip
The All Tab displays search results of all types simultaneously, with each result card indicating its source by the asset type ICON. Other Tabs display only the corresponding type.
Step 2: Using the Top Universal Filter
After you switch Tabs, the top filter bar displays the filter dimensions supported by that Tab. All Tabs support the following two general filters (except Workflow):
Owner: Filters by asset Owner. Multiple selections are supported.
Time: Filters by Last Updated Time or Created Time, for example, the last week, last month, or last three months.
How to use:
1. Click the All Owners dropdown list, select the target owners, and then confirm.
2. Click the All Time dropdown list and select a preset time range.
3. To clear all filter conditions under the current Tab, click Reset.
Step 3: Using Asset Type-Specific Filters
Some asset types provide additional filter dimensions beyond the general filters. Common differences are as follows:
Tab | Additional Supported Filter Dimensions |
Tables / views / functions / volumes | Owner, Time, Catalog, Tag |
Models / model services / metrics / semantic models | Owner, Time |
Agent | Owner, Time, Location (File Volume Location) |
Files / Notebook / SQL / folders / Git folders | Owner, Time, Location (File Volume Location) |
Workflow | Owner |
Offline ingestion / real-time ingestion | Owner, Time |
Model experiments / dashboards / | Owner, Time, Location (File Volume Location) |
How to use:
1. Select the corresponding filter items at the top of the target Tab.
2. Multiple dimensions are combined using the AND relationship. For example, if you set Owner = alice and Governed Tag = Contains Sensitive Data, only assets that meet both conditions are displayed.
3. Click Reset to clear all filters under the current Tab.
Step 4: Using Search Keywords Together
Filter conditions and the search box can be used together:
1. Enter a keyword or natural language in the search box at the top.
2. Switch to the target asset type in the left Tab.
3. Add conditions such as owner, time, and governed tags in the filter bar at the top.
The final result list is the intersection of "keyword search results ∩ current Tab type ∩ all filter conditions at the top", sorted by comprehensive relevance.
Filter Dimension Description
Asset Type Classification
This is determined by the built-in asset system of DataBuddy and requires no additional configuration. The Tab list will include new asset types as the product evolves, such as External Volume in the future.
Owner
Data source: The Owner recorded when the asset is created, or the Owner after the Owner is changed on the asset details page.
Multi-select: You can select multiple owners at the same time, and the results are combined as a union.
Time
By default, filters by Last Updated Time.
Supports filtering by the last week, last month, or last three months.
Catalog/Schema (Available Only for Catalog Assets)
After you select a Catalog, the Schema dropdown is automatically updated to show only the Schemas under that Catalog.
Governance Tags (Available Only for Catalog Assets)
A tag appears in the filter dropdown only when it has been actually applied to an asset.
In multi-select mode, the results are combined as a union, meaning an asset is included if any selected tag matches.
Verification Result
After completing the filtering, you can confirm whether the filter takes effect in the following ways:
1. Switch to the Tables Tab and set only Owner = Current User. The Owner field of all cards in the result list will be the current user.
2. In the Tables Tab, add a governance tag filter (for example, pii). All tables in the result list will have the pii tag.
3. Click Reset. All filter conditions are cleared, and the result list is restored to the default search results for that Tab.
FAQs
Q: Why Can't I Find the Catalog Filter on the Metrics Tab?
A: In the current version, metrics, semantic models, and agents exist as independent assets in data discovery and are not attached to the three-level Catalog namespace. Therefore, Catalog and governance tag filters are not provided. To filter by business domain, you can use the domain and grouping capabilities within the corresponding module (such as Semantic Models). Q: Why Are Only Some Tags Visible in the Governance Tag Filter Dropdown?
A: The filter dropdown only shows tags that have been actually applied to assets in the current Tab, avoiding the experience of selecting a tag but getting no results. If a new tag has not been applied to any asset, you need to first tag the asset in Tag Data Assets. Q: Are Multiple Filter Conditions Evaluated as "AND" or "OR"?
A: Different dimensions are combined using the AND relationship (all conditions must be met), while multiple values within a single dimension are combined using the OR relationship (any match is sufficient). For example, if you select multiple owners alice and bob, and select the governance tag pii, the result will be assets that match "(Owner=alice OR Owner=bob) AND Tag contains pii".
Q: Can Filter Conditions Be Shared Across Different Tabs?
A: In the current version, Reset only clears the filters of the current Tab. When Tabs are switched, common dimensions (Owner, Time) are retained, while dimensions that are not common (Catalog, Tag) are automatically converged or cleared based on the target Tab's support.
Additional Notes on Behavior and Limitations
Tab Switching Behavior: When Tabs are switched, common filters such as Owner and Time are automatically retained. When a Tab that does not support Catalog is switched to, existing Catalog and governance tag filters are automatically cleared.
Default Time Filter Field: The Time filter for all Tabs corresponds to Last Updated Time by default.
Basic Filter Scope: The current version only supports the basic filter dimensions listed above and does not extend to business state fields such as the Schedule Status of workflows or the Publish Status of dashboards.
Unlimited Multi-Select: There is no hard limit on the number of multi-select values supported by a single-dimension filter (such as Owner).
